about us

earthware organics is a small, family owned and operated business. it was born from humble beginnings when tom shadley, a furniture builder and stone fabricator, was looking for a creative way to use our excess materials (we hate to throw stuff away). he combined a piece of reclaimed wood with a soapstone remnant and our first piece was born. his daughter, kristin,  loved it and suggested we market it. since then, we’ve added some really cool natural and eco friendly materials to our product line.

about our materials

SOAPSTONE...a natural stone with amazing thermal qualities. remove the stone from its base and chill it for serving cold dishes, or heat it for serving hot dishes. the stone will stay hot...or cold...for hours. our soapstone can go right into the oven for cooking pizzas, cookies, muffins or anything else. soapstone is also non-porous, so it will not harbor bacteria.

BAMBOO...a highly renewable material. bamboo grows to maturity in about five years and is self replenishing with new shoots growing from it’s extensive root system. bamboo is harder than maple, making it a wonderful surface for cutting boards and serving trays.

ECOTOP...a forest stewardship council-certified 50/50 blend of bamboo fiber and recycled wood fiber, salvaged from demolition sites...all bound together with a water based resin that is both petroleum free and VOC free.

RECLAIMED & SALVAGED LUMBER...our reclaimed lumber comes from old buildings slated for demolition. Our salvaged lumber comes from burn areas, naturally fallen trees and small scale local clearing.  It is estimated that 3 million board feet of wood are destroyed each year in urban areas.  This wood is either cut for fire wood or mulched.  Either method adds to the carbon foot print each of us leave.   instead of hauling this beautiful lumber to the landfill, we use these rescued treasures to craft much of our furniture and many of our culinary creations.
